If you are reading this blog from America you will notice I am a day ahead of you, it is Thursday evening in Virginia. Today is predicted to be 99 degrees and then cool off tomorrow to 75. As I sit here at the computer this morning I can hear some birds singing in the trees behind my apartment, very beautiful. I feel like I am on an adventure in the woods except these woods have 9 million people in them. Last night Professor Jong (she was our guest professor last October) and Hummel (came to Bluefield also last October) took the three Americans out to dinner at a local restaurant. Professor Jong ordered for us. We were served hot tea, a dish with small whole fish (like the smelt or sardines you see in America) with small shrimp in a dark sauce, some super flat bread like a wafer (yummy), some cabbage cooked in a dark sauce, some sliced beef with cabbage and small noodles, some type of chopped noodle with some thin vegetable, a big fish caked with green spices soaking in a very spicy liquid, sticky rice, and coca cola. This was served all in the middle of the table and we just used our chopsticks to get what we wanted, sometimes having to reach in front of others. No lazy susan here. Everything tasted very good, one meat was a little tough and one dish was a little too hot for me. It was a great evening out. Afterwards I came back to the room and posted my journal, took a shower, read a little, and was asleep by 9:30. Oh yea, the shower consists of a movable shower head next to the toilet with no shower curtain. I had to put a towel in the window so no peeping toms would see me naked. God Bless!
