Yesterday we arrived in Nanjing at 1:00 pm and were greeted at the airport by Lisa (Luo Lidong) and several students from the Jiangsu Institute of Education. Everyone was excited about meeting each other. After a 45 minute drive we arrived on the Caochangmen Campus and were greeted by more students who helped us take our belongings to our apartments. I am staying on the 2nd floor and the girls are staying on the 4th floor. Lynn Yarbrough is on the 3rd floor so that will be nice to be so close to her. After a tour of the campus by the students we were able to come back to the room and rest until 6:00. Then Lidong met us and took us a short distance to a banquet room where we met Vice President Zhou and other important people from the college. We had a wonderful lazy susan meal of about 12 different dishes. I tired everything that came by, sometimes missing it the first time around. One of my favorite dishes was fried eggplant. We had welcomes and toasts all around and enjoyed each others company. It was a wonderful evening.
Vice President Zhou was born in 1956 so he is my age. He has one child, a boy, who works in Australia now. Both his parents are alive and he said he saw his dad right before coming over to dinner. He said his dad wanted him to stay.
Professor Du was there and she was excited to see old friends and said she wants to do dinner with the three of us sometime.
Around 8:00 we finished dinner and we came back to our apartment to visit with Lynn Yarbrough. She invited us to church today so we take a taxi at 10:00 this morning to the church. Afterwards she said she would take us to the market place. A student is coming by today to show us the food areas on campus.
